LADIES WEEKEND OUT // SEQUOIA & KINGS CANYON BACKPACKING

RAE LAKES LOOP

INFO & REGISTRATION

TRIP UPDATE: APRIL 7th, 2024

As a result of the record snowfall in the Sierra during 2022/23 season, the road into Cedar Grove which grants access to Rae Lakes Loop from the west is still under construction and has no estimated time of reopening. Due to these unforeseen circumstances, we must keep this trip on hold until the National Park Service reopens the road into Cedar Grove.

On a more positive note, access from the Eastern Sierra is still possible! The trail from the east goes up and over Kearsarge Pass and adds an extra 10 miles, and 3500+ feet of elevation gain. For those interested in this alternate route through Rae Lakes click here to inquire! We’d love to facilitate an Eastern Sierra adventure into Rae Lakes this summer!

We are also working on a separate backpacking trip elsewhere in Sequoia/Kings which we will announce this Spring, 2024. To be put on the email list for this new backpacking trip in Sequoia/ Kings, please send us a message by clicking here.

We’ll be sure to meet outside of the park first so we can caravan together to our first nights campsite. Once we’ve arrived at camp we’ll sort all of our gear to ensure you’ve got everything you need for the trip, do introductions, and hand out your Tera Kaia tops. Our first nights camp will be in Cedar Grove which is where the Rae Lakes Loop trailhead is, or at a nearby campground.

    WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14TH

Day 2 - We’ll shove off after breakfast, continuing along Bubbs Creek, eventually turning north as we pass by one of the most aesthetic peaks in the Sierra, East Vidette. A series of switchbacks will lead us past Bullfrog Lake and to our second nights campsite, Charlotte Lake.

    THURSDAY, AUGUST 15TH

Day 3 - We’ll head out from Charlotte Lake and make our way up and over Glen Pass, topping out at nearly 12,000’. This will be our most challenging day in regards to elevation gain. Once we’ve crested Glen Pass we’ll make our way down to Rae Lakes and set up camp for the night.

    FRIDAY, AUGUST 16TH

Day 4 - Our lay day! On our 4th day we have a special treat for our guests, a day hike to Sixty Lakes Basin! We’ll keep our camping gear situated while we head off to explore this crown jewel of Kings Canyon National Park. We’ll camp one more night at Rae Lakes.

    SATURDAY, AUGUST 17TH

Day 5 - We’ll finally make our way out of the Rae Lakes area, passing by the beautiful Arrowhead Lake and Dollar Lake, eventually connecting with the south fork of Woods Creek. We’ll camp at the confluence of the south fork of Woods Creek this night.

Day 7 - Our final day on the trail. We’ll pack up camp and start making our way down Paradise Valley. Along the way we’ll pass through the beautiful Mist Falls, eventually making our way back to Roads End. Once back at the trailhead we’ll debrief the trip with the group, exchange contact info, snap a few photos, and be on our way.
